Marching Band Mickey Costume

Who’s the leader of the club that’s made for you and me? Why it’s Mickey Mouse! And for the 2019 Walt Disney World Marathon, he “led the marathon club” through 26.2 grueling miles in the unwavering Orlando heat.

It’s important to take weather into consideration when you’re brainstorming a full marathon costume. More importantly, I didn’t want it too elaborate that it would hinder my running performance but I also wanted enough detail that it was easily recognizable to anyone that saw me. As you can see from the photos, I had a blast and it was all smiles (for the most part).

Performance:

Because I was wearing strictly performance gear, I wasn’t too worried about how hot it would be though it did get sticky towards the end (see ditched gloves and rolled up sleeves). The larger Mickey gloves were used for pre-race photos/group pictures but then they were checked for the much more practical regular white gloves for the actual race. I wanted to protect the leggings to get Mickey’s iconic black “skin” and the long sleeve top to mimic a marching band top. You could opt for a short sleeve top and ditch the base layer if you wanted to lighten it up even more.

Post-Race Review

After a month of brainstorming and trial and error, I was happy with the overall end result. The costume was comfortable for the entire race and I received lots of compliments on and off the course. In hindsight, I don’t think I would have changed a thing.
